Company

The Company started as a family-owned business of Pedrito Lumakang and his wife, Esperanza Yu in 1959. With one store helper and one lumberyard man, it was then called NEW CENTRAL LUMBER and was located along C. Padilla Street near the Taboan Market of Cebu City. The business engaged in the trading of sawn lumber and planed stocks. When Pedrito Lumakang passed away in 1979, the eldest son, Henry Yu Lumakang took over the reins of the business as General Manager. His mother, Esperanza assisted as Treasurer.

In 1989, the business moved to a bigger lumberyard at 235 N. Bacalso Avenue, Mambaling, Cebu City in order to better serve its customers. It was incorporated and its name was changed to NCL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. It installed its own kiln-drying plant and other related machinery and equipment so as to manufacture from then on its own planed stocks and mouldings. It employed 20 pioneering personnel who are still employed up to the present. When Henry passed away in 1993, most of the Lumakang siblings were called upon to play various roles in the management of the company. The name of the corporation was changed to BUDGET BUILDERS, INCORPORATED (BBI), the name which the company carries up to the present.

The late ‘90s witnessed the expansion of BBI. From lumber retailing, the company ventured into lumber wholesale distribution and the manufacture and distribution of wood products like kiln-dried doors, mouldings, kitchen cabinets, finger-jointed products, etc. It also engaged in the treatment of wood poles and lumber.

BBI is currently actively managed by members of the Lumakang family, namely, Carolyne Lumakang-Go, Arnold Y. Lumakang, Wilson Y. Lumakang, together with their indefatigable mother, Esperanza. In addition, professional managers have been called in to assist in the task of making the company more productive, efficient and competitive. Like the sturdy molave hard wood, the management of BBI continues to operate the business, taking into account sound corporate values such as continuous organizational development, unity and respect, excellence, continuous improvement of production methods and quality standards, good customer relations, and optimization of resources complemented by focused sales and dynamic marketing strategies. These are undertaken to maintain the company’s role as a dominant player in the industry.
